Description: This course is open to incoming freshmen who are required or recommended to enroll in Marin Catholic's Summer School math program. Math 9 Prep is designed to help prepare students for enrollment in Algebra I. This course emphasizes arithmetic and fundamental pre-algebra skills.

Description: This course is open to incoming freshmen who are recommended or required to enroll in Marin Catholic’s Summer School English program. English 9 Prep is designed to help prepare students for the demands of a college preparatory high school English course. The course will emphasize spelling, vocabulary, grammar, writing skills, and reading comprehension.

Description: This course provides an introduction to the most commonly-used computer applications. Students will learn the fundamentals of word processing, mail merge, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and databases. Applications used will be MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Appleworks.

Description: This course focuses on developing study skill strategies that improve academic performance and prepares students to excel in a college preparatory high school. Over the semester course students will focus on essential skill sets that integrate with core curriculum: Organization/Time Management, Note-taking, Memory techniques, Test Taking strategies, Critical Reading/Thinking, Critical Writing, Self- Advocacy. The course concludes with a culminating assessment, which synthesizes the skill sets into a student demonstration.

Description: A complete course in Euclidean geometry with emphasis on deductive reasoning, mathematical proof, and coordinate geometry. Throughout the course, theorems are applied in problems that build deductive skills and reinforce algebraic skills. A graphing calculator is NOT REQUIRED, but highly suggested. A scientific calculator is required.
Prerequisites: For sophomores to be: An ‘A-‘ or better grade in BOTH semesters of Algebra I or Accelerated Algebra I; for juniors to be: A ‘B‘ or better grade in BOTH semesters of Algebra I or Accelerated Algebra I, and a ‘B+‘ or better grade in both semesters of Algebra II or Honors Algebra II.
(NOTE: Non-Marin Catholic students must provide appropriate transcripts/report cards to show satisfactory completion of prerequisites.)

Description: The goal of English 9 is to help students become skilled readers and
effective writers. The course emphasizes the study of great writing from
classical to contemporary times. Students learn the critical skills necessary
to understand and interpret works of literature of various types: long and
short fiction, the novel, nonfiction, poetry, drama, and the epic. The
structure of English grammar and composition and extensive vocabulary study are
fundamental aspects of the course. The writing program focuses on developing
responses to literature and includes practice in autobiographical, narrative,
descriptive, and expository writing.

Open to: Students making up a D or F grade in either semester of English 10

Description: The goal of English 10 is to investigate the various types of
literature (poetry, prose, drama) and to explore how they address certain
timeless themes in literature: the journey of the hero, coming of age, war and
peace, love, etc. The structure of English grammar and composition and
extensive vocabulary study remain essential aspects of the course, with
increased emphasis on grammar for writing and the development of a more
sophisticated and varied style. Expository writing receives greater emphasis,
the focus for assignments moving generally from response to analysis. Practice
continues in the development of skills in autobiographical, narrative, and
expressive writing.
